About two years ago, we had the pleasure of interviewing an up and coming model who we thought was just so regal and so gorgeous! She has grown so much in her craft and is such an amazing person that we wanted to do a follow up interview with her to see what she's been up to!
Here's the link to the original interview for our Most Notorious Talent segment!
•Please state your name and occupation(s) for our readers as well as your social media handles and contact information!
MOM, MODEL, HAIR STYLIST. FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM @ALEXUNDONE !
THANK YOU! A LOT HAS HAPPENED FOR ME IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. I SIGNED WITH A MOTHER AGENCY, LANDED A HANDFUL OF MAGAZINE COVERS, GOT MY FIRST INTERNATIONAL PUBLICATION, WENT TO LA FOR THE FIRST TIME (I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!) AND HAD MY FIRST ART SHOW! 2013 WASN’T A GOOD YEAR FOR ME SO I MADE SOME MAJOR CHANGES OVER TIME TO MAKE SURE I WOULDN’T HAVE ANOTHER YEAR THAT WAS SO STAGNANT.
•If you could choose between the two, would you choose print work or runway modeling?
I HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE WITH PRINT WORK, BUT I WOULD HAPPILY DO BOTH. I’VE HAD MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRINT WORK IN THE PAST, BUT I’M HOPEFUL THAT WILL CHANGE SOON.
•Being a parent, I find it's sometimes hard to be a thousand places at once and still feel like you've had an accomplished day. Of course since our original interview with you two years ago, Lilly has grown up so quickly! How are you managing motherhood with a younger child and the grind of modeling?
IT’S HARD JUGGLING MOTHERHOOD AND WORK. I’M NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL/SHOOT AS OFTEN AS OTHER MODELS BECAUSE OF MY LITTLE ONE, SO I’VE GROWN EXTREMELY SELECTIVE OVER TIME. BUT I FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO BE THAT WAY IN THIS INDUSTRY ANYWAY. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SHOOT WITH JUST ANYONE, YOU WON’T GET VERY FAR. I’M A HAIR STYLIST BY DAY SO THE HOURS ARE LONG SOMETIMES. SOME NIGHTS WHEN I GET HOME, LILY IS ALREADY IN BED. IT SUCKS. IN A PERFECT WORLD, I’D BE ABLE TO TUCK MY KID IN EVERY NIGHT AND STILL GET EVERYTHING ELSE DONE. I BALANCE IT OUT AS BEST I CAN. WE HAVE OUR OWN DATE NIGHTS TOGETHER, MOVIE NIGHTS, SPA DAYS. SOMETIMES SHE WAKES UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO SNEAK IN MY BED. WE TALK AND CATCH UP ON EVERYTHING WE MISSED FROM EACH OTHERS DAY. I ASK HER WHAT SHES THANKFUL FOR AND WHAT HER FAVORITE THING WAS FROM THAT DAY. WE MAKE IT WORK. MY PARENTS HAVE BEEN AN INCREDIBLE SUPPORT SYSTEM TOO. I WOULDLN’T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THIS POINT WITHOUT THEM…
•Do you have any advice to your teenage self that you would like to share?
BE MORE PATIENT AND LESS STUBBORN.
•We are so in love with your artwork! What made you want to finally share your unique masterpieces with the world?
I WAS SUPER NERVOUS ABOUT PUTTING MY PAINTINGS OUT THERE! I STARTED PAINTING OUT OF BOREDOM. I DIDN’T HAVE ANY REAL HOBBIES, AND THOUGHT PAINTING MIGHT BE FUN. I JUST TOOK A CHANCE WHEN I SHARED MY ARTWORK ON SOCIAL MEDIA. MY EAGERNESS TO SEE HOW PEOPLE WOULD RESPOND TO MY ART WAS STRONGER THAN THE NERVOUSNESS.
•What makes you, Alex the model, the artist, the mother so Notorious?
STATISTICS ARE NEVER IN YOUR FAVOR WHEN YOU ARE A TEEN MOM, BUT NOT ONCE DID I EVER FEEL LIKE HAVING A CHILD HINDERED ME. LILY FUELED ME TO DO BETTER AND WORK HARDER. I WAS A NEW HAIR STYLIST WHEN I FIRST MOVED TO VA, AND LOST MY JOB THREE TIMES WHEN THE SALONS CLOSED WITHOUT MUCH NOTICE. I FELT LIKE I HAD A STRING OF BAD LUCK BUT HAD NO CHOICE OTHER THAN START OVER. I WENT TO NEW YORK HOPING TO GET SIGNED BUT WAS KNOCKED DOWN BY EVERY AGENCY. I THINK I CRIED FOR THREE DAYS. I WAS TOLD I COULDN’T DRAW,BUT HAVE SUCCESSFULLY TAKEN PART IN MY FIRST ART SHOW AND SOLD MY PAINTINGS.
WHAT MAKES ME SO NOTORIOUS? I KEEP GOING. SO WHAT IF NYC DIDN’T WORK OUT?? I WENT TO L.A. AND HAD A MUCH BETTER EXPERIENCE! THIS YEAR HAS BEEN A GREAT ONE FULL OF CHANGE, GROWTH, AND LESSONS. I PLAN ON DOUBLING THAT IN 2016.
